Burton vs Nolan Poster Mash-up by ryansd Burton vs Nolan Poster Mash-up by ryansd
I have been wanting to make this one for a while now. Previous to Nolanization, Tim Burton made a great attempt to create Batman. I thought it would be a cool idea to bring Burton's Batman to a Dark Knight-esque poster. Pretty happy overall, but the fire appears a bit unrealistic to me.

Gotham City Courthouse

Keaton's Batsuit

Batman Logo

Other than these images, I used different PS brushes from my collection.

Comments are appreciated!

Edit

Fixed a few of the more noticeable flaws, fixed the credits, and played with some lighting. Hopefully it brings a little more realism to the flames.

The smoke doesn't seem to emanate from the fire.  I think if it were hard to see the upper parts of the fire, probably through some obscuring smoke as it rises, this piece would be quite perfect.

Batman: Tell all your friends about me.

Me: Yeah sure they'll love to hear this.

Yes, the fire does seem a little bit unrealistic, but the overall picture is great. Nolan did a good job of recreating Batman according to today's way of life and technology. Now the dark knight actually looks capable of fighting criminals. However, the one thing Nolan didn't manage to recreate was the atmosphere. Burton's films have this incredible atmosphere which just grabs you and sends you directly into this gritty neo-noir world. That in my opinion, along with Danny Elfman's score, is what makes those movies masterpieces.

Anyway, good job man. I'm faving your image for sure.

Would you compare Nolan's vision to Frank Miller's take?

An interesting question. I've never thought about that really. I think Frank Miller's Batman is more dramatic and brutal compared to Nolan's. Frankly I wouldn't compare them to one another.

Well Nolan borrowed Year One for BB and TDK Returns for TDKR, he also borrowed from Moore for TDK

I just recently read Year One. I must admit, it's more realistic compared to many other comics. I think it's a good comic book, but it ended much to soon.

Thanks! I agree. Same with all Burton movies, as well. You know it's a Burton movie just by the feel and atmosphere. I appreciate your comment

Thanks! I am definitely with you on Batman Returns. The better of the two for sure. I originally wanted to make this one Batman Returns, but I wanted to add snow, but in the end, it just didn't look right.

Nah, I think this one works well, especially with the tagline. Ties together nicely.

I just re-watched BR a few months ago and was so taken how classic Tim Burton it was. Very moody like NBC and his other stuff. I am with you, I think Schumacher killed the franchise. :(

I for one love Keaton as Batman. As much as I love Christian Bale, I think Keaton was a more classic Bruce Wayne. Though I'm partial, I guess, because the Keaton movies were the inspiration for me to get heavily back into comics/Batman when I was a teen.

Thanks, again! I am still deciding if I want to make a poster for Batman Returns. I am not sure what I would do for it, but I am still thinking. I think I may be partial with the first two Burton Batmans, too. I grew up watching those.

Ah ah, remember, Jack Nicholson got top billing over Keaton. His name comes first in the credits.

Nothing against Jack Nicholson because let's face it, the man is a legend. However, realistically, he was NOT the star. Sure, he was the main antagonist, but I will ALWAYS see top billing go to the Hero!

I can't disagree with you there, I'm just pointing out that every single authentic poster and advertisement for 1989 Batman gives Nicholson top billing. It was a contractual obligation thing that his name always come first in the credits and the advertising, so it's not really a question of what it should be so much as what it actually is. The hardcore fanboys all know this by heart, and it would have been a nice nod to the original if you'd used it here.

You do make a valid point. I was definitely aware of Nicholson's top billing, but I was leaning more toward the format of the Dark Knight movie poster. However, I do agree that it should stick more to the authentic billing so I have made the adjustments.

Thanks  That was mainly why I made this. I cannot say that I like Nolan's version over Burton's or the other way around. I absolutely despise what Schumaker did to the franchise

Yeah that was really horrible, they should have let Burton continue it... the Schumacher one, probably the worst roles Val Kilmer and George Clooney ever did.
